FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Victoria, BC, September 22, 2026. With municipal elections fast approaching, a new online Candidate Scorecard is making it easier for voters across the Capital Regional District to find and compare information about candidates in one place.
The Livable CRD Candidate Scorecard, now available at LivableCRD.ca, brings together candidates’ responses to key municipal issues on a single website. The goal is to make it easier for voters to explore candidates’ positions and conduct their own research ahead of election day.
Why we created the Candidate Scorecard
“Municipal elections can be overwhelming, and figuring out where candidates stand can be difficult. With 20+ candidates in some municipalities, and campaign platforms that can be difficult to interpret or compare, it can be challenging for voters to understand where candidates stand,” said Ray Oakley, a volunteer with Livable CRD.
The project was developed through the efforts of local volunteers and nonprofit organizations who came together to create a practical resource for voters ahead of the municipal election.
With candidates running across municipalities throughout the region, finding information can require visiting multiple websites, searching through campaign platforms, and navigating different approaches to communicating policy positions. The Candidate Scorecard provides a centralized starting point for voters who want to learn more.
“Wouldn’t it be helpful to be able to compare all of the candidates in one place?” said Michael Bassili, a Livable CRD volunteer. “That’s the challenge we set out to address. Voters deserve a non-partisan resource that makes it easier for people to learn about the candidates and the issues that matter to them.”
Livable CRD encourages voters to use the scorecard as one resource in their own research and to explore candidates’ positions before making their own decisions.
How the scorecard works
Livable CRD does not endorse candidates. Each response was assessed against a published, reproducible methodology and assigned a letter grade; where a candidate did not respond, that is noted on their profile as well, so residents can see the full picture either way.
Participating organizations collaborated on a shared questionnaire, with each group contributing questions in its area of expertise. Livable CRD sent that questionnaire to every candidate it could identify running in this municipal election, and graded the responses using a published, reproducible methodology and a clear letter-grade system. Results are organized by municipality, and each candidate’s profile includes both their letter grade and their full response, so residents can dig in as deep as they want.
By the numbers
82 candidates returned the questionnaire across 12 municipalities. “We are excited to have received such a large response, and we’re grateful to every candidate who took the time to respond thoughtfully.”
