FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Victoria, BC, October 6, 2026. With a provincial election now scheduled just one week after municipal election day, local volunteer-led project Livable CRD is urging voters not to lose sight of local issues. Its new Candidate Scorecard brings together candidates’ responses to key municipal issues on a single website so voters can do their own research ahead of election day.

Why we created the Candidate Scorecard

“Municipal elections are where many of the decisions that shape our everyday lives are made, and are one of the places your vote can have the biggest impact. Our volunteers care deeply about local issues, and we want to make sure local candidates and local voices don’t get lost in the noise of a provincial election,” says Ray Oakley, a Livable CRD volunteer.

The Candidate Scorecard covers a broad range of topics ranging from governance to arts and culture, and received over 80 responses from candidates from 12 municipalities across the CRD. The project was developed through the efforts of local volunteers and nonprofit organizations who care deeply about their communities and came together to create a practical resource for voters ahead of the municipal election.

With candidates running across municipalities throughout the region, finding information can require visiting multiple websites, searching through campaign platforms, and navigating different approaches to communicating policy positions. The Candidate Scorecard provides a centralized starting point for voters who want to learn more.

“Our volunteers have spent months working on the Scorecard because we believe municipal elections deserve attention. Having two elections back to back makes our work more important than ever,” says Michael Bassili, Livable CRD volunteer. “We’re not asking people to choose between paying attention to provincial or municipal politics, we’re trying to make sure they have the resources to understand their local choices too.”

Livable CRD encourages voters to use the scorecard as one resource in their own research and to explore candidates’ positions before making their own decisions.

How the scorecard works

Livable CRD does not endorse candidates. Each response was assessed against a published, reproducible methodology and assigned a letter grade; where a candidate did not respond, that is noted on their profile as well, so residents can see the full picture either way.

Participating organizations collaborated on a shared questionnaire, with each group contributing questions in its area of expertise. Livable CRD sent that questionnaire to every candidate it could identify running in this municipal election, and graded the responses using a published, reproducible methodology and a clear letter-grade system. Results are organized by municipality, and each candidate’s profile includes both their letter grade and their full response, so residents can dig in as deep as they want.
